Local Resident Honored with Prestigious Home Building Industry Award
Michael J. Gulick of Norwalk, owner of New
Canaan-based Gulick Associates, LLC, a residential and commercial real
estate development company, will be presented with the 2008 Home Building
Industry Award (HOBI) from the Home Builders Association of Connecticut.
The Home Building Industry Awards are the most
prestigious awards presented in Connecticut for excellence in the home building industry. Mr. Gulick was selected by his peers to be the recipient
of the "Best Spec Home 5-6 million" at the 2008 annual banquet to be held on
November 4th at the Aqua Turf Country Club in Southington. This award is
for a home built by Mr. Gulick's company, Gulick Associates, on 2.59 acres
located at 131 Thayer Pond Road in New Canaan, CT. The 10,371 square foot
home features white oak flooring throughout, nine foot ceilings, custom
cabinetry and six fireplaces.
In addition to five bedrooms (optional sixth bedroom
if needed), including a master bedroom with an entrance art gallery, the
house has a home theater, a custom designed wine cellar and tasting room
with a 1402 bottle capacity, a four floor elevator, butlers pantry and a pet
wash. Among many other attributes, the home has a formal dining room, a
charming breakfast room overlooking the property, a living room with a gas
fireplace and entrance to deck, as well as a three car heated garage. Other
highlights are a notty cherry library, a mud room, a walkout basement to a
bluestone patio with an exterior fireplace, billiard room with full bar and
six fireplaces (one outdoors).
This award-winning home is professionally landscaped
with an abundance of flowering shrubs and evergreens, a stone retaining wall
and an underground sprinkler system for the entire property. Adding to the
beautiful ambiance, the home is surrounded by majestic tall trees lining the
boundaries, a babbling brook, waterfalls, an 800 square foot freeform heated
pool, a flagstone deck with a fireplace and room for a small, par 3
golf-hole with putting green.
The Home Builders Association of Connecticut, who is
presenting the award for this home, is a statewide professional trade
organization representing home builders, remodelers, developers and many
subcontractors, suppliers and professionals that provide services to this
diverse industry.
"It is an honor to receive this prestigious award,"
said Mr. Gulick, who received national recognition a year ago when he was
featured on "ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." Following a flood that
devastated the home of the Brown family of Bridgeport, the home was totally
destroyed by a fire caused by kids throwing firecrackers. Following the
fire, the Brown home was repeatedly robbed. Mr. Gulick, who took his workers
off other jobs to complete this humanitarian project, led the efforts of
4,000 local volunteers who built a new home for the Brown family in seven
days. This story aired on ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" last
October.
As a principal of Gulick Associates, Mr. Gulick said
that his company carries on a forty-year family tradition that takes great
pride in providing quality services that range from custom home building,
property management, large renovations and commercial development.
